Berwick City, Casey Comets, Dandenong City, Dandenong Thunder, South Springvale and Springvale White Eagles have each indicated that they will support a joint bid for an A-League licence, according to a report in The Herald Sun.

The Dandenong Showgrounds and Casey Fields have been touted as potential home grounds for the prospective A-League outfit, should a future bid be successful.

The news comes only days after South Melbourne formally submitted a bid to join Australia’s national competition in the 2017/18 season.

Greater Dandenong mayor has thrown his full support behind any potential bid, citing the explosion in the sport’s popularity in the south-east of the city.

“There’s a real hunger for soccer,” he told the Herald Sun

“It’s taking off in the south-east and there’s no AFL here.

“We’ve got the right spot for it- the Showgrounds, which is only 500 metres from Dandenong station. It’s a big parcel of land, 40 acres, perfect for a boutique stadium.

“Dandenong is the most multicultural council in Victoria and they would back an A-League club.”

What do you think? Would a team from Melbourne’s south-east be a good candidate for the A-League?
