Bruno Fornaroli’s brace last night completed a record milestone, as the Uruguayan became the fastest player to score 30 goals in the A-League.

The Melbourne City striker said he was unaware of the prolific record he had set in 35 matches, smashing Shane Smeltz’s previous achievement of 30 goals in 45 games.

“When I finished the game yesterday someone say I think I see on Twitter you broke the record but I didn’t know this,” Fornaroli said.

“I work hard for my team and try to score but for the team, not for records.”

The 29-year-old admitted he was surprised with the level of individual success he has found in a little over a year in Australia.

“I think the secret is don’t think, just play and enjoy every game,” he said.

“When you score the confidence comes, you can shoot, you can try more so this is great for me and I will continue like this.”

Melbourne City ran out 2-1 winners over Newcastle Jets last night in front of 7,745 fans at AAMI Park including arguably Fornaroli’s biggest fan; his mum.

“It’s great when your mum is here,” he said.

“Yesterday she was very happy after the game. It’s important for me it’s great motivation when she’s here but also I’m happy for the three points.”

The win last night now sees City three points behind league leader Sydney FC, who are yet to drop a point after five rounds. The Uruguayan believes the club is on track to attain silverware this season.

“I think we can go better.”

“I think this year is a big A-League… every game is difficult.”
