Melbourne City forward Corey Gameiro’s horror run with injury continues as the club announced he had ruptured his ACL for the third time in as many years.
The 23-year-old will undergo surgery next week after rupturing the ligament in his right knee during training.
Signing from Sydney FC in June last year, the talented goal-scorer’s career has been hampered consistently through injury and featured in just five games for City in the 2015/16 season after a second ACL tear in November.
Previously, Gameiro’s promising start to the 2014/15 season was cut short after his first ACL rupture in an international match for the Olyroos in a 1-0 win over South Korea.
That call-up to the Olyroos squad had come off the back of superb form for Sydney having scored a goal in each of the opening two rounds of the season.
