Teen Yasin Nur made the move from Werribee City signing for Melbourne City’s NPL 2 squad for 2017 and is looking to make a mark with his new club.
The 16-year-old is hopeful that the opportunity with the A-League club’s NPL outfit may help him advance in his aspiration of becoming a professional footballer.
“Hopefully if I can work hard, train hard and put my head down then maybe the first-team coach sees me and if I get lucky then why not,” he told MFootball.
“The long-term would be to get a professional contract and make a living out of it.”
Earning his first senior contract earlier this year with Werribee at just 15 years of age, the young talent is already impressed by the high standards of his new surrounds.
“[It’s] more professional, standards are higher, training is high intensity and it’s a bit longer,” Nur explained.
“It’s different when you walk in, the way you change, the way everything is set out.”
After initially declining the offer to trial with Melbourne City in 2015 due to a busy schedule, Nur jumped at the opportunity second time around resulting in his signing for the NPL team.
“So I went in for a couple of days with the squad, went in for a couple of sessions, trials too. They saw what they liked so they picked me.
“I was trialling out for the Youth League squad also…they offered me something so I just took it.”
Nur explained his eagerness to work his way from the under 20s side into the senior setup at City in 2017 after earning a taste of senior action at Werribee.
“This year I got a couple of games and it was good so next year I want to get as many senior games as I can,” he said.
“Progress into the senior team and get a lot of senior football.
“It’ll make me a better footballer, make me up my game and become a professional footballer.”
The young left-sided player was also quick to recognise and thank others for the impact they have played in him progressing to the level he has already.
“Special shoutout to my Under 15s coach Tony Trifunov, to Giovanni Inserra [Werribee City Club Chairman] and to my family especially my parents.”
