Melbourne City took maximum points from their trip to Canberra securing a 2-1 victory over Canberra United at GIO stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Laura Alleway opened the scoring as she directed a header in from a Lauren Barnes free kick in the 18th minute.
Melina Ayres extended the visitors lead as she launched home from a Jess Fishlock pass, beating the United keeper Trudy Burke in the 80th minute.

Canberra created many chances but couldn’t find the net until the dying minutes of the match.
A penalty was awarded as City captain Steph Catley made contact with Jasmyne Spencer, Ellie Brush converted from the spot and scoring Canberra’s first goal of the season.

The Newcastle Jets got their first win of the season, keeping Melbourne Victory scoreless in their 4-0 win at Lakeside Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Megan Oyster, Arin Gilliland and Emma Stanbury got their names on the score sheet as the Jets notched up a 3 – 0 lead in the opening 25 minutes at Lakeside, while Jenna Kingsley rounded out their quartet of goals in the second period of injury time.

Oyster secured the Jets opening goal as she tapped in a Gema Simon’ set piece in the early stages, Gilliland added to the tally as she headed home from a Sophie Nenadovic corner moments later.
Stanbury made it two in ten minutes later with a well taken lob following a Victory turn over which landed at her feet.
Kingsley made it four, scoring with a volley style goal in the 92nd minute.
Melbourne Victory will host Sydney FC in their round three clash at Lakeside stadium, while Melbourne City will welcome a break as they have a bye this weekend.
