Video replays may be a part of the A-League sooner rather than later with Football Federation Australia announcing that it is aiming to introduce the technology in April.
A-League chief Greg O’Rourke has signalled that tests have been carried out in recent days in Brisbane, with the hope that it will be ready to be used prior to the A-League finals.
The system will reportedly only be used to decipher goals, penalty decisions, red cards and the rare occasion of mistaken identity.
The announcement comes only days after David Carney handed Sydney an equaliser against Melbourne Victory after appearing to control a cross with his hand.
“The technology is right, that doesn’t need to be questioned.
“The question now is how do we operationalise it in line with what FIFA want.
“Not everybody has agreed on how this will be communicated to fans and with broadcasters, whether or not it will be reviewed centrally like the NRL do or whether at each ground on each day.
“Our aim is to have video assistant refereeing at every single A-League game to pick reviews around what we saw with Carney’s goal.”
